Greg DeFever is one of Alta Mere’s most successful and longest tenured franchisees, having owned his store in Lubbock for the past 22 years. Greg’s 23-year-old twin sons, Carson and Cody, have worked at the Alta Mere store the last four years. Carson works there on a full-time basis, while Cody works there part-time while also attending Texas Tech.
What did you do before opening an Alta Mere store?
I have a degree in finance and accounting, and worked as a tax accountant for four years. That background prepared me for the administrative side of the business and balancing the finances of the company.
What drew you to Alta Mere as an attractive franchise opportunity?
In my initial meetings with franchisees representatives, I was impressed by their energy, organization and vision they had for the company. I liked the products Alta Mere offered and could tell they were an up-and-coming franchise.
What is it like to work with your sons?
They are great employees and it is very reassuring as a business owner to have employees you trust. They have worked here for several years and have an outstanding understanding and feel for the business.
Any particular reason why business has been so good recently?
There have been a number of factors that have contributed to our success over the last year or so, but I would say it has primarily been a result from an increase in window tinting for commercial and residential buildings in 2016. People here have really seen a value in the product lately.
I feel our window tinting service is a very valuable product, particularly in helping to combat the extreme heat people deal with during the summer here in Lubbock. I believe this product has tremendous potential for growth, particularly in the commercial and residential markets. Alta Mere’s website and marketing materials have done a great job of educating people on the benefits of window tinting.
What has been the best part about being a Moran franchisee?
The relationships and interaction with everyone in the Moran system feels like a close-knit family. Franchisees receive great support from the corporate office. We can always reach out and communicate with other long-tenured Alta Mere franchisees for suggestions and advice.
What would you tell prospective franchisees interested in owning their own business?
Owning a business involves a lot of hard work and personal sacrifice. At the same time, you get to enjoy many benefits of running your business and working for yourself.
